(TITC) - On 31st October 2023, in Ha Noi, Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) coordinated with Traveloka to organise the Workshop “Public Private Partnership in the Management and Development of Tourism Destinations”. VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu attended and spoke at the event.

The Workshop welcomed nearly 100 delegates representing the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam National Authority of Tourism; Leaders of tourism management departments in localities; Vietnam Tourism Association; tourism and economic experts; travel, hotel, and transportation businesses; Press and television agencies…

Speaking at the Workshop, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu highly appreciated the initiative in innovation as well as organisational proposals of Workshop “Public Private Partnership in the Management and Development of Tourism Destinations”. Currently, localities are making an attempt to gradually restore the tourism industry after the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The demand for the tourism industry continues to recover and accelerate development. It is urgent to find solutions to the problem of product development and destination branding in localities in particular and Vietnam's tourism industry.

Destination management and development to create a healthy tourism operating environment, build brand image, and enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of all stakeholders are issues that have received the Government's attention in recent years. Especially attracting the participation of all stakeholders, promoting public-private cooperation, raising awareness, and adding more resources for the sustainable development of each local and national tourist destination.

Speaking at the Workshop, Mr. Albert Zhang, Co-founder of Traveloka, said, currently, the world tourism industry is making strong efforts to recover post the pandemic and move towards sustainable, responsible development, balancing economic development and preserving culture and heritage. To achieve this, the entire industry must have a clear and specific development plan; along with the participation of public-private cooperation activities. Vietnam is blessed with beautiful natural beauty, cultural heritage spread throughout the country and rich in history. The above unique factors make Vietnam outstanding, attracting tourists from all over the world. Therefore, sustainable management and development of destinations needs to be emphasised in the coming time. This journey requires the joint participation of the Government and the entire tourism industry. The Workshop is an opportunity for the tourism industry to work together to find the best solutions to manage and develop sustainable destinations and invest in the most effective public-private cooperation.

Presenting about “Management and development of tourist destinations, international experiences and recommendations for Vietnam”, Mr. Wong Soon-hwa, Member of PATA Executive Board, Honorary President of Singapore Institute of Tourism Management, indicated that the future of Vietnam's sustainable tourism development is extremely bright. Mr. Wong Soon-hwa also pointed out a number of points to improve destination management and development such as the essential role of aviation and destination connectivity; the organisation of major events every year; support from the Government in orientation and guidance; specific plans for promotion as well as investment in tourism infrastructure to attract tourists. Sharing experiences on destination management and development in Quang Ninh, Ms. Nguyen Huyen Anh, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of Quang Ninh Province, stated, Quang Ninh Province has focused on public-private cooperation, strengthening communication to promote the image of Quang Ninh's outstanding destination such as Ha Long Bay Heritage; Bai Tu Long sea area, Van Don and Co To island districts and 600 historical and cultural relics associated with the Red River civilization; infrastructure development such as golf courses and MICE venues. Currently, the province is enhancing the application of digital transformation at tourist attractions to increase the experience for tourists.

Ms. Widya Listyowulan, Vice President for Public Policy and Government Affairs of Traveloka, said, the use of travel platforms will help tourists know more about the destination of interest through reviews from previous travellers, find travel suggestions and ideas, and also will find good deals.

At the discussion section “Approaches to establish better public-private partnerships in management of Vietnamese destinations”, delegates all agreed on the vital roles of Government and local managers in destination management and development. Mr. Dinh Ngoc Duc, Head of International Relations Division (VNAT) stressed the need to devise a short-, medium- and long-term tourism development strategy, towards sustainable tourism, and prioritise the tourist experience. Along with that is the creation of unique and attractive product lines, making the tourist destination a safe and friendly destination. According to Ms. Tran Nguyen, Deputy General Director of SunWorld, destination communication and marketing need to adhere closely to values, bringing the goal of sustainable, long-term development, protecting the destination ecosystem while still ensuring to meet the demands of tourists first. The construction of iconic works such as Ba Na Hills, Golden Bridge,... is also a factor that attracts tourists to Vietnam.

In the framework of Workshop, VNAT and Traveloka Vietnam Co., Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation in the 2023-2026 period.

Also, the Launching Ceremony of Travel guidebook promoting tourist destinations of Binh Thuan and Quang Ninh supported by Traveloka - An excellent example of public private partnership in promoting tourist destinations.
